The best-seller lists are notoriously volatile and often incomplete.
But in some cases, the best sellers on the Web may not be in the most reputable sellers’ online stores.
And in the case of Barbie, there is little reason to doubt the validity of a report that the doll maker’s doll is the best selling toy of 2017, according to data compiled by the Associated Press.
Barbie is in the top five of all toys sold online, according the company, which is based in China.
The company declined to provide details on the sales figures.
The AP also compiled sales data from retailers like Amazon and Toys “R” Us, which it uses to compile its rankings.
The top toy sellers are a mix of retailers and independent sellers, including many that are owned by big-name brands like Apple, Lego and Walmart.
These sellers include a doll maker named Toytopia, whose dolls include the Star Wars character Darth Vader, and a New York-based company called The Dollhouse, which sells dolls of Barbie-themed characters.
The Associated Press found the dolls were more popular than many other dolls online, including a few by other toy companies.
Among the top 10 toys sold in the United States in 2017 were a doll called Jafar and a Barbie doll called Jasmine.
Other top sellers were a Lego robot and a pair of Star Wars-themed Star Wars dolls.
The New York Dollhouse reported selling more than 100,000 dolls of the characters Star Wars and Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
