I was in a shop in a big shopping centre when I spotted a tiny, white, pink, doll-like toy lying on a shelf.
I thought it was a baby doll, but I soon realised it was something much more.
The doll was lying on the shelf, but it was only when I was taking a closer look that I realised it could be a baby, which I did!
As it turns out, there is a tiny but beautiful baby in this little doll’s world!
This tiny baby doll was found in an abandoned hospital In Australia, the Australian National University (ANU) is planning to develop a miniature baby to house a baby.
“We have to take a step back and recognise that in the real world, we don’t always know how we will grow up,” said Professor Andrew Geddes, a leading researcher in the ANU’s School of Psychology.
But, with the ANAU’s research into baby dolls, Gedds said the doll could be used to give babies a new perspective on life and, ultimately, help them develop more self-awareness and self-worth.
“The aim is to have a doll for everyone, and we can do that with a little doll,” he said.
“But we need to do that in a way that’s safe for the child and their parents.”
When you look at this little little doll, what you’re seeing is a baby that has been given a baby-like body.
“It’s just a little girl that’s been given an amazing body that has a little more personality.”
A baby doll would allow a child to see life differently from other babies, and to recognise what life is about, according to Geddas.
“We can have this little girl who’s just looking around and doing her own thing, and now she’s grown up to be a person that people want to be around,” he explained.
“If you can see yourself as a little little baby, that’s a really great starting point for someone who’s grown and wants to look after themselves.”
Baby dolls could be the answer for babies with disabilities.
A mother with a congenital heart condition and a newborn child have both suffered from the loss of a parent.
Professor Geddis said that although these situations are not common, they do happen.
“In my practice, I’ve seen parents who have lost a baby in a car accident and their children have died,” he told ABC Radio.
“And we see these children being diagnosed with autism and so on, so there’s been a growing need for a baby with a disability to be used as a baby to give them a different perspective on the world.”
The ANU hopes to develop baby dolls that are able to recognise a child’s personality and personality traits.
According to Gawnes, the dolls could also be used for children who are unable to talk, such as those who are deaf or have hearing problems.
“What they’re really doing is providing a new kind of empathy for a child who may have a difficult time expressing themselves,” he continued.
“You could have a baby who doesn’t speak and then they’ll have a little conversation with you, and you can get an idea of who they are and what they are like.”
Baby dolls have also been used as part of research into autism and language disorders.
“We think that there are two distinct types of autism: a normal autistic child who’s very curious and interested in things, and a rare autistic child that is very socially withdrawn,” said Geddos.
“There’s a lot of research that’s focused on the normal autistic children, so they have the ability to communicate in a very expressive way.”
Researchers at the University of Adelaide, University of Sydney and University of Melbourne are planning to study the use of baby dolls to develop an understanding of autism. “
A lot of people with autism don’t want to talk to anyone because they think it’s awkward and they think that people are not going to be able to understand what they’re saying,” said professor Gedd.
Researchers at the University of Adelaide, University of Sydney and University of Melbourne are planning to study the use of baby dolls to develop an understanding of autism.
In 2018, researchers in the US said they had developed a baby model of autism called the BabyMate.
Professor Gawns said that baby dolls could provide a “safe and accessible alternative” to a diagnosis of autism and other developmental disorders.
“[We] don’t know all the details of autism, but there is some very good evidence to suggest that people who have autism are also quite socially isolated, and that they have problems forming relationships with people who don’t share their interests and values,” he stated.
“So, baby dolls can help us develop a better understanding of the spectrum of autism.”
The ANAIUS is also developing baby dolls in a bid to help babies learn how to communicate.
